Strathcona County RCMP Lay Firearms and Drug Charges Following High Risk Vehicle Stop

Sherwood Park, Alta. – On April 11, 2019, Strathcona County RCMP conducted a high risk traffic stop as a result of a 911 complaint of a disturbance involving a firearm.

At approximately 8:50 p.m., Strathcona County RCMP attended a local hotel parking lot where an altercation had taken place between several people.  It was reported that there was a knife and a firearm involved.  A suspect vehicle departed the area before police arrived, but was located a short distance away and a high risk traffic stop was conducted on the three occupants. 

Subsequently the vehicle was searched and police located a loaded shotgun, a knife, suspected cocaine and an undisclosed amount of cash. There were no injuries as a result of the incident.  

Dylan Knut Tracy Steinbach (26) of Eckville, Alta. has been charged with:

·       Unlawfully possessing a controlled substance

·       Possession of a firearm for a dangerous purpose

·       Careless use of a firearm

·       Unauthorized possession of a firearm

Plus 17 additional charges.  Steinbach was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Sherwood Park Provincial Court on May 1, 2019 at 9:30 a.m.

Ashley May Maki (34) of Edmonton, Alta. has been charged with:

·       Unlawfully possessing a controlled substance

·       Possession of a firearm for a dangerous purpose

Plus five additional charges. Maki was released on a Recognizance and is scheduled to appear in Sherwood Park Provincial Court on May 1, 2019 at 9:30 a.m.

The third suspect located in the vehicle was a male youth and was released without charges.
