Strathcona County RCMP Arrest Male for Possession of Stolen Cigarettes

Strathcona County, Alta. – Strathcona County RCMP arrested a 57-year-old male after locating stolen cigarettes during a traffic stop.

On Oct. 30, 2020 at approximately 7:53 a.m., RCMP stopped a vehicle travelling northbound on the Anthony Henday Drive for a traffic violation. Police observed several plastic totes filled with cigarette cartons in his vehicle and he was unable to provide police a reason for possessing these tobacco products. 

The male was arrested and the vehicle subsequently searched. Police seized 355 cartons of cigarettes, lighters, an undisclosed amount of cash and what is believed to be methamphetamine. Retail value of seized cigarettes is over $60,000.

Police determined that the cigarettes, lighters and cash were stolen during a break and enter at a cigarette shop in Calgary earlier that night.

Tracy Ward Leffler of Edmonton, Alta. has been charged with:

  • Break and enter
  • Possession of break in instruments
  • Possession of stolen property over $5000

Tracy was remanded into custody following a remand hearing and is scheduled to appear in Sherwood Park Provincial Court on Nov. 18, 2020 at 9:30 a.m.
