Strathcona County RCMP Investigates Series of Thefts From Motor Vehicles

Strathcona County, Alta. – Strathcona County RCMP are currently investigating numerous thefts from motor vehicles that have been occurring across Sherwood Park, AB. Thefts from vehicles are more likely to occur in areas with many vehicles and minimal pedestrian traffic. Regardless of location, the risk is increased in any place where a vehicle is left running, unattended, unlocked, or with valuables in plain view.

Strathcona County RCMP encourages residents to take an active role in crime prevention in their neighbourhood and community by participating in the #9PMRoutine.

The #9PMRoutine is used to remind citizens to protect themselves and their property. There are simple steps you can take to help prevent crime in your neighbourhood. Every night at 9 p.m.:

  • Remove valuables from your vehicle and ensure it’s locked, windows are closed, and if possible, your vehicle is parked in a garage.
  • Close all garage windows and lock any garage doors, especially those leading into your house.
  • Close your overhead garage door
  • Keep your vehicle registration and insurance documents secure. The documents can be used to commit other crimes.
  • Check and lock all house doors and shut all windows.
  • Turn on an exterior light.
  • Close and lock your fence gate.
  • Lock your shed.
  • Put away bikes and toys in your yard.
  • Lock the door between your garage and house and all other external doors

Most importantly, do not put yourself in an unsafe situation if you come across someone committing a crime. If you observe someone committing a property crime at your home, call police.
