Strathcona County RCMP Remind Parents of On-Line Safety for Children

Strathcona County, Alta. – With schools being closed, children who are home will potentially have more unrestricted time online. Strathcona County RCMP is urging families to have conversations about internet safety and implement strategies to ensure everyone is protected online.

During this time your child may want to spend increased time connecting with friends by live streaming, video chatting or online gaming. Parents should be aware of the different apps that their children are accessing and be aware of what content they are creating and posting online.

Strathcona County RCMP Arrest Male for Theft of Mail

Strathcona County, Alta. – On March 11, 2020, at approximately 2:00 a.m. Strathcona County RCMP observed a vehicle parked on the roadway with their four way flashers activated near Range Road 233 and Township Road 522 in Sherwood Park. An officer stopped to determine if the occupants of the vehicle required assistance.

The officer determined the male passenger had outstanding warrants out of Ontario and British Columbia for property related offences and was also on numerous conditions as a result of previous charges.

Strathcona County RCMP Arrest Two Suspects for Forcible Confinement

Sherwood Park, Alta. – On March 5, 2020 at approximately 7:15 a.m. Strathcona County RCMP responded to a call for a male who had been assaulted and confined in a hotel room against his will.

As a result of the investigation police located the victim at a local hotel and two suspects were arrested on scene. The victim was transported to hospital and treated for non-life- threatening injuries. Police believe that this was a targeted incident and the general public is not at risk.

Strathcona County RCMP on Scene of Collision on Highway 15 and Highway 830 – Update #2

Strathcona County, Alta. – On March 12, 2020 at approximately 12:30 p.m. Strathcona County RCMP responded to a fatal collision involving a semi-tractor and pickup truck at the intersection of Highway 15 and Highway 830.

Preliminary investigation revealed the semi-tractor was travelling eastbound on Highway 15 when it failed to stop at a red light, colliding with a pickup truck travelling southbound on Highway 830.
