Strathcona County RCMP and Enforcement Services Seize Eleven Dogs from Residence

Strathcona County, Alta. – On Jan. 28, 2023, Strathcona County Enforcement Services and Strathcona County RCMP responded to a report of an animal in distress at a residence in Sherwood Park, Alta. Members attended the residence and located eleven dogs that appeared to be malnourished and neglected. All eleven dogs were seized and transported to the Edmonton Humane Society by Strathcona County Enforcement Services.

A male was arrested and police determined the male was already on conditions out of Edmonton, Alta. to not possess or be at a residence with domestic animals.

Alex Joseph McGrath (26) a resident of Edmonton, Alta. was charged with the following offences:

  • Causing animals unnecessary suffering (x11)
  • Fail to comply (x12)

Alex McGrath was released from custody following a Judicial Interim Release hearing and is scheduled to appear in Sherwood Park Provincial Court on Feb.15, 2023.

The rescue of these animals was the result of a complaint from a concerned citizen and the collaborative efforts between RCMP and the Strathcona County Enforcement Services. Along with the support of the Edmonton Humane Society all of the seized dogs are now receiving veterinary care and will be put up for adoption.
