Strathcona County RCMP Warn of Scammers Attempting to Selling Fake Gold

Strathcona County, Alberta – Strathcona County RCMP have received multiple reports of people attempting to sell gold out of their vehicles. These groups of people have been flagging motorists down, or approaching them in parking lots asking people to buy their jewelry or take it in trade for gasoline. The jewelry is not real and is offered at extremely low prices. 

Those involved in the scam typically provide a story such as having a broken or lost bank card and are unable to access their money to continue the trip.

Some suspects have even gone as far as involving children in the scam to make the story seem more real.

The suspects are generally driving new rental vehicles.

The public should not hesitate to report suspicious activity, and to make note of any information such as type of vehicle, description of the individuals and direction of travel.
