Sherwood Park, Alta. – On April 29, 2019 at approximately 10:19 p.m. a Strathcona County RCMP received a report of a possible impaired driver travelling eastbound on Baseline Road.
Police located the suspect vehicle at the intersection of Highway 21 and Baseline Road. Emergency lights were activated and a traffic stop was attempted. The vehicle fled and continued driving erratically northbound on Highway 21. No pursuit was initiated due to safety concerns.
A short time later the vehicle collided with a semi-truck that was turning south onto Highway 21 from Highway 16.
The 65-year-old driver of the vehicle was declared deceased at the scene. The driver of the semi-truck sustained minor injuries.
Strathcona County RCMP and RCMP Collision Analyst were on scene for several hours investigating the collision. The contributing factors to this collision remain under investigation.
No charges will be laid and no further updates are anticipated. The name of the deceased will not be released.
