Strathcona County RCMP Arrests Male for Child Pornography

Strathcona County, Alta. – Strathcona County RCMP began investigation a child pornography complaint at the end of Sept. 2020. As a result, on Oct. 15, 2020 a search warrant was executed residence in the northeast area of Sherwood Park.

During the search, several items were seized including a handgun, drug paraphernalia and what is suspected to be cocaine and crystal meth. Police located electronic equipment that contained images and videos depicting child pornography.

Police also discovered a female youth inside the residence. Although there was no evidence she was there against her will she was subsequently placed in the care of her family.

Shaun Aspden-Burdan (33) of Sherwood Park, Alta. was charged with multiple offences, including the following:

  • Possession of child pornography (x2)
  • Careless use of a firearm (x2)
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of a restricted firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm

Additionally he was charged for sexual assault on a youth from a separate ongoing police investigation.

Aspden-Burdan was released from custody with conditions following a Judicial Hearing and is scheduled to appear in Sherwood Park Provincial Court on Nov. 18, 2020 at 9:30 a.m.
