Strathcona County RCMP Crime Reduction Unit Locate Firearms and Drugs During Traffic Stop

Sherwood Park, Alta. – On June 29, 2023, Strathcona County RCMP Crime Reduction Unit conducted a traffic enforcement stop on Highway 216 and Baseline Road in Sherwood Park. Members were unable to confirm the identity of the driver and as a result the male was detained to continue the investigation. Police located what appeared to be cocaine and the male was arrested and searched.

Subsequently the vehicle was searched and police located and seized two handguns, ammunition, over 77 grams of what is believed to be cocaine and Canadian currency.

Deonte Campbell (21), a resident of Edmonton, Alta., has been charged with:

-Unauthorized possession of a firearm (x2)

-Possession for the purpose of trafficking

-Possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle (x2)

-Possession of stolen property

Deonte Campbell was released from custody following a Judicial Interim Release hearing and is schedule to appear in Sherwood Park Provincial Court on August 2, 2023.
