Strathcona County RCMP and Citizens On Patrol team up –Lock It or Lose It

Strathcona County, Alberta – On Tuesday October 3, 2018 Strathcona County RCMP and Strathcona County Citizens On Patrol (COP) volunteers did crime prevention inspections on 374 vehicles parked at Millennium Place, as part of the Lock it or Lose it public education campaign. Volunteers did not try doors or touch vehicles, other than to leave a report card at the vehicle, flagging temptations that might encourage a thief to break into the vehicle or try to steal it.

Strathcona County RCMP Investigate Sexual Assault

Strathcona County, Alberta – Strathcona County RCMP are requesting the public's assistance in gathering information on the following crime:

On Tuesday September 11, 2018 at approximately 12:30 p.m. a female youth was walking on Brentwood Blvd near Raven Drive when she was approached by an unknown male. The male attempted to engage in a conversation with the female and while doing so grabbed her hand. The male then hugged and kissed the female and walked away.

 

Strathcona County RCMP Advise of Traffic Disruption on Highway 16

Strathcona County, Alberta – Strathcona County RCMP are currently on Highway 16 due to a semi-trailer’s load colliding with a CN rail bridge. The westbound lane on Highway 16 near Highway 21 has been reduced to one lane of traffic.

Traffic is expected to be disrupted for several hours and RCMP are asking motorists to choose alternate routes if possible.

Strathcona County RCMP Seeking Witnesses to Fatal Collision

Strathcona County, Alberta -   Strathcona County RCMP are continuing to investigate the collision which followed an attempted traffic stop on Tuesday, August 14, 2018.  In an effort to further the investigation, the RCMP are encouraging any drivers who have dash camera footage or anyone who witnessed the single vehicle rollover on the Sherwood Park Freeway which occurred at approximately 3:00 p.m. to contact the RCMP.

Strathcona County RCMP Warn of Scammers Attempting to Selling Fake Gold

Strathcona County, Alberta – Strathcona County RCMP have received multiple reports of people attempting to sell gold out of their vehicles. These groups of people have been flagging motorists down, or approaching them in parking lots asking people to buy their jewelry or take it in trade for gasoline. The jewelry is not real and is offered at extremely low prices. 

Those involved in the scam typically provide a story such as having a broken or lost bank card and are unable to access their money to continue the trip.

Strathcona County RCMP Investigate Significant Damage to Safeway Entrance

Strathcona County, Alberta – This morning at approximately 5:10 a.m. Strathcona County RCMP responded to a report of a vehicle purposefully driving into the Safeway entrance located on Sherwood Drive. The suspect vehicle was last seen driving east on Granada Boulevard.

Police located the unoccupied suspect vehicle parked on Hummingbird Road in Sherwood Park and determined the vehicle was stolen from the previous night in Sherwood Park. Suspects have not been located.

There is significant damage to the entrance of the Safeway as a result of the incident.

Strathcona County RCMP Arrest Two Youths for Arson at Playground

Strathcona County, Alberta – On Thursday August 9, 2018 Strathcona County RCMP responded to a report of a fire at a playground on Forrest Drive in Sherwood Park. Upon arrival Strathcona County Emergency Services observed a slide on fire and was immediately extinguished.

The slide was destroyed causing several thousand dollars’ worth in damages.

No one was injured as a result of the fire.

Shortly after the incident, two youths were arrested for arson. The names will not be provided as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Strathcona County RCMP Investigate Shooting

Strathcona County, Alberta - On Tuesday August 7, 2018 at approximately 2:27 a.m. Strathcona County RCMP responded to a residence near Range Road 225 and Township Road 522 for a possible shooting.  

Upon arrival police located a male inside the residence with a single gunshot wound.

The male was transported to hospital where he remains in stable condition.

Police believe this was not a random act and there is no additional risk to public safety.

Strathcona County RCMP Investigate Suspicious Item

Strathcona County, Alberta – Strathcona County RCMP are currently investigating a suspicious item located in a ditch along Highway 14. Police have blocked off the eastbound lane of Highway 14 near Range Road 225 and traffic is being re-routed north and south on Range Road 225. The westbound lane of Highway 14 has not been affected.

Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) has been contacted and will be attending the location to assist.
