Strathcona County Focus on Distracted Driving in February

Strathcona County, Alberta - With everyone’s busy schedules distracted driving seems to be a common occurrence on our roadways. Driving always requires your full attention. Distracted driving is similar to impaired driving as the driver’s judgement can be compromised when they are not fully focused on the road. Distracted driving can lead to reduced reaction time, impaired judgement and the possibility of injury or death to the driver, passengers and/or others on or along the roadway.

Strathcona County RCMP Investigate Theft of Meat Worth Over $100,000

Strathcona County, Alberta – On January 22, 2018 at approximately 5:00 a.m. Strathcona County RCMP responded to a theft from Fins Seafood Distributors located on Cree Rd in Sherwood Park.

At approximately 1:00 a.m. suspects broke into a locked trailer located in the back parking lot and stole several pallets of meat including crab, salmon and steak. The value of the stolen meat is estimated at over $100,000.

Vehicle #1: Described as a dark blue Dodge Caravan with front plate or decal on front bumper.

Strathcona County RCMP Investigate Missing Dog

Strathcona County, Alberta – Strathcona County RCMP are requesting the public’s assistance in gathering information on the following incident:

Sometime between 9:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Sunday January 21, 2018 a dog was removed from a residence located in the Nottingham area of Sherwood Park, Alberta. The front door was opened by an unknown individual and the dog was either taken or it ran out of the residence. The dog has not been located. There were no signs of forced entry into the home.

Strathcona County RCMP Remind Residents of Intersection Safety

Strathcona County, Alberta - January is Intersection Safety Month in Alberta. Intersections are natural points of conflict in our roadway system in both urban and rural settings. The Strathcona County RCMP wants to remind drivers and pedestrians to use caution when at intersections.

The majority of collisions at intersections are caused by driver error, the most common being; making a left turn across the path of an on-coming vehicle, committing a stop sign violation, and disobeying a traffic signal.

Strathcona County RCMP Execute Search Warrant

Strathcona, Alberta – Strathcona County RCMP began investigating a stolen property complaint on December 19, 2017 and as a result a search warrant was executed at a residence located in the Glen Allan area of Sherwood Park, Alberta.

During the search several items were seized including a Kona Mountain Bike, 2010 Yamaha dirt bike and numerous surveying and radio detection tools. Police also seized what is suspected to be 5.4 grams of methamphetamine.  Approximate value of the stolen items is $200,000.

Strathcona County RCMP Warn of the Dangers of Driving Fatigued

Strathcona County, Alberta – Most people are aware of the dangers of drinking and driving but don’t realize that fatigued driving can be just as fatal. Like alcohol, fatigue impairment slows reaction time, decreases awareness, impairs judgment and increases the risk of being involved in a collision. Being awake for 23-24 hours causes the same impairment as having a blood alcohol level of 0.05.

Strathcona County RCMP Nab Suspect Following Several Collisions With Stolen Vehicles ***UPDATE 1***

Strathcona County, Alberta – Strathcona County RCMP have laid nineteen charges in relation to an incident that began on December 24, 2017 where a male was involved in multiple collisions over several hours.

Crime Stoppers Strathcona County RCMP Investigate Theft From Polo’s Social Lounge

Strathcona County, Alberta – Strathcona County RCMP are requesting the public’s assistance in gathering information on the following crime:

Sometime between 8:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on December 13, 2017 a one-of-a-kind guitar was stolen from Polo’s Social Lounge located on Emerald Drive in Sherwood Park. The victim completed a live musical performance at the lounge and when packing to leave the guitar was gone.

The guitar is described as a Winston and Fidel Cigar Box Guitar and was inside a soft case.
