Strathcona County RCMP and Major Crimes Unit Investigating Death ***UPDATE***

Strathcona County, Alberta – An autopsy has been completed on an adult male found deceased on March 24, 2018 near a rural property in Strathcona County, Alberta.

The autopsy was conducted at the Alberta Medical Examiner's Office on Tuesday but the cause of death and manner of death are still undetermined, pending toxicology results.

Strathcona County General Investigative Section will be continuing with the investigation.

No further information is available at this time.

Strathcona County Enforcement Services Stop Excessive Speeder

Strathcona County, Alberta – On Monday March 12, 2018 at approximately 10:03 p.m. Strathcona County Enforcement Services clocked a Chevrolet Silverado going 148 km per hour in a marked 80 km zone. The vehicle driven by a 17-year-old male from Sherwood Park was travelling eastbound on Township Road 530 (Baseline Road) near Frazer Place in Ardrossan, Alberta.

 

Demerits for speeding range from two points (exceeding the posted limit by less than 15 km/h) to six points (exceeding the posted limit by more than 50 km/h).

Strathcona County RCMP Remind Residents of Popular Scam

Strathcona County, Alberta – Strathcona County RCMP are warning residents of a “phishing” email scam that has been circulating. This email scam involves a delivery service which could include FedEx, Canada Post, DHL and DPD. The email subject field will include information such as shipping notifications, delivery status, shipping confirmation or delivery information. Well-known companies and brands are favourite targets for fraudsters.

Strathcona County RCMP Arrest Male for Uttering Threats Outside Local School

Strathcona County, Alberta - This morning at approximately 8:22 a.m. Strathcona County RCMP responded to a suspicious person complaint at Westboro Elementary School in Sherwood Park. A male was observed yelling and making threatening gestures while walking around the school property.

Police immediately attended and a male matching the description was located a short distance away and arrested without incident.

Westboro Elementary School was placed in a hold and secure for approximately 10 minutes during the incident.

Strathcona County RCMP Investigate Credit Card Fraud at Local Pharmacy

Strathcona County, Alberta – On February 20, 2018 Strathcona County RCMP responded to a fraud complaint at the Rexell Pharmacy located on Bremner Drive in Sherwood Park.

Two suspects entered the store and purchased a money order with a credit card. The clerk refunded the amount as credit cards can not be used to purchase money orders. The suspects then used a different credit card to receive the refund. It was determined stolen credit cards were used for both transactions.

Strathcona County RCMP Arrest Male for Child Pornography Offences

Strathcona County, Alberta – Strathcona County RCMP with the assistance of ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit have arrested a Sherwood Park man for child pornography offences.

This investigation began in late August 2017 when the RCMP’s National Center for Missing and Exploited Children provided information about a Canadian using a social media account to upload and distribute child pornography.

Strathcona County RCMP Investigate Theft of Firearm From Local Store

Strathcona County, Alberta – Strathcona County RCMP are requesting the public’s assistance in gathering information on the following crime:

On March 7, 2018 at approximately 8:00 a.m. a firearm was stolen from the Canadian Tire on Ordze Road in Sherwood Park. A male cut the firearm cabinet lock and was observed taking a brown Chiappa 12mm rifle. The male concealed the rifle and left the store without paying.

Strathcona County RCMP - Serious Injury MVC ***UPDATE***

Strathcona County, Alberta – On February 21, 2018 at approximately 6:35 p.m. Strathcona County RCMP and Strathcona County Emergency Services responded to a collision involving a vehicle and semi hauling an oversized load on Highway 14 near the South Cooking Lake turnoff. The vehicle was travelling eastbound when it collided with the edge of the oversized load travelling westbound.

The lone occupant of the eastbound vehicle suffered serious injuries and was transported to hospital by ambulance.
